SEPTEMBER NEWSLETTER "New Things For a Growing Business"
Dear Horse lovers,

As Heart in Your Hand Horsemanship continues to grow and change. We seek to find as many ways to meet your horsemanship goals and needs as possible. We are here for the horse and the horse lover. We can help make all your horse dreams a reality.

In order to meet the needs of a growing number of a variety of clients we are making as many different types of learning experiences available to you as possible.

A few years ago we started out just doing small clinics, which grew into 4 day camps at Calamus Outfitters, then regular private lessons and tournament days. Here are some new things coming up this fall and for 2008.

We have been offering an internship for the last year and now this fall we have our actual first real live intern (Erica). She will be living with Keith and I this fall, working for us and playing with our horses as she learns the ins and outs of natural horsemanship and running your own business. She will be my shadow and helper at clinics this Sept. and for the Oct. Women's Camp at the Calamus. We are very excited for this opportunity to share with a bright young gal from Bassett who has an eagerness to learn to be a professional horsewoman.

Secondly, Sherry will be one of the guest speakers at the HETRA Conference on Oct. 28 in Omaha. She will be speaking about confidence.

Third on the list for this fall is an interview on the new TV show on NTV called "The Good Life". Sherry was interviewed by Leslie Means about Heart in Your Hand Horsemanship and also a second interview about the Sandhills Horse Sense Program she conducts with Missy Dearmont using Equine Assisted Psychotherapy. The program will air sometime after Sept. 10th from 9-10:00 am. The program is on Mon.-Fri.

If you listen to KTZ100 FM you will hear an advertisement for Heart in Your Hand Horsemanship on Fridays the rest of this year. So tune into a great radio station!

The last 4-Day Horsemanship Camp at Calamus Outfitters Ranch near Burwell, NE will be Oct. 5-8. This is an alumni camp and we are so excited to have so many gals coming back again this year. It really is a very rewarding horse experience and one that you won't soon forget. Just think sharing the beauty of your horse with other horse lovers on a working cattle ranch with an instructor who will set you up for success, greater excellence, safety and more fun than you can imagine with your horse.

As I write this newsletter a small group of women are on the road right now on their way to the Labor Day Women's Confident Leadership Camp at the Calamus Outfitters Ranch. They are going to learn and grow with their horse like never before. I know they will go away with many positive benefits that will last. Be sure to check the website or Sherry's blog soon for reports from the camp.

Because these camps are so life changing, we will be setting the dates for 2008 very soon, so that you can start making your plans now! By next months newsletter we should have some dates.

The Calamus Ranch is a very unique place and beautiful facility for these camps. The only drawback for some people seems to be the 3-4 hour drive from the eastern part of the state. We will continue to offer camps at the Calamus Ranch, but next year we are working on offering similar camps at Camp Moses, which would be a lot closer for those in the eastern part of NE.

This will save travel time for many, but probably not much money, because the rental of the facility will cost more than the Calamus Ranch; therefore the price of the camps will need to be a bit higher than the camps at the Calamus.

If you are interested in attending a Horsemanship Retreat at Camp Moses next year, I would love to hear from you so I can get an idea of numbers. It will be a little trickier to arrange this facility because I will need to know quite a bit in advance with definite commitments from those who plan to come in order to reserve the facility and not end up having to pay for all of it myself. Again keep an eye out in the Oct. newsletter for more information as this possibility unfolds.

In addition to the many clinics we are offering this fall, we are starting some study groups for those interested in getting together to support and encourage one another on their horsemanship journey.

There are several women in the Lincoln area who have agreed to meet on a regular basis in order to advance even quicker and stay motivated toward excellence with horses.

Here are the tentative dates set:
Sept. 11 & 28
Oct. 9 & 26(Sherry will be there for lessons on the 26th)
Nov. 6 & 30
Dec. 4 & 28(Sherry will be there on the 4th for lessons)

If you are interested please call Sherry at 308-730-2150 for location and other details. There may be a small arena fee depending on the location.

Sherry will come for group lessons every once in a while at reduced rate, for those who will commit to 4 consequtive lessons they will also get the 5th one free. (payment upfront)

There is also another group of ladies meeting near Grand Island every Mon. Sherry has been there the past two weeks to give them lessons. They will be meeting on a regular basis. If you are interested please let Sherry know, and she will introduce you to the group.

We have been finding that many people want regular lessons instead of a clinic once a year. We are providing that need through these study groups and also at Chance Ridge in Elkhorn. Sherry has several people taking regular monthly lessons from her at Chance Ridge. She is committed to going there once or even twice a month as the need grows. She always fills up the time slots. So it is important if you want a lesson to not wait until the last minute to call for your time. Please, Reserve your time slot as soon as possible!

Even though we are meeting so many people's desire for regular lessons through study groups and private lessons. We are still offering many clinics this fall. The value of 2 full days of learning cannot be compared to a short 2 hour lesson. Most people are amazed at how quickly that 2 hours goes by. And it is much cheaper per hour for a 2 day clinic, if you are budget minded.

Look at our schedule below to find a clinic near you. If there isn't one near you. Consider hosting one in your area. If you get 6 other people signed up you get to come for FREE!

In addition to camps, clinics, private lessons and study groups, Sherry will be offering the tournament play days and mini clinics at Chance Ridge in Elkhorn again this winter. We had a blast with this last winter, even when it was cold. So be sure to watch the schedule or call for details.

We all know that owning horses is expensive and involves risk. The risk of not knowing what to do to stay safe and have fun is even more expensive than education. Happy Trails,
Sherry Jarvis

PS: And yes, I am still finding time to work on my book once in a while. Maybe it won't take me ten years to finish it.

"Horsemen share knowledge. Showmen hide it in a corner and go home." -- AQHA Judge Dale Livingston

Cisco is back home! Many of you know some of my horses especially Cisco who is a great lesson horse. He was recently diagnosed with EPM and an anurysm. After 5 days at the Vet, he is home and doing great. His prognosis is good. I have been doing hill therapy with him daily and he was even ridden once a week ago by a student.

Marion Schultz from Litchfield, was the winner of the free lesson from the drawing at the Burwell Rodeo where we had a booth. He came to my house for his lesson and we had a great time working on leads with his nice ranch gelding.

Study Group in Lincoln
They will do two dates a month so that if you miss one you can make the other. The first or second week of the month will be on Tuesdays and the third or fourth week of the month will be on Fridays.

For now we have two locations: On Tuesdays at Ann Sampson's house near Lancaster Event Center and on Fridays at Michelle Lincoln's place near Palymra with a great play ground.

During the winter we will move it to an indoor location, very possibly Lancaster Event Center.

This group is to help, inspire, and motivate each other towards even more excellence. Sherry will come every 4-6 weeks for a mini clinic with a topic to be studied. There will be a package deal for those who commit to attend the mini clinics on a regular basis. If you are interested let Sherry know as soon as possible. The dates are listed above.

We already have 66 members on our Heart in Your Hand Yahoo Chat Group.
This group is dedicated to natural horsemanship students lead by Sherry & Keith Jarvis whose aim is to help both the horse and rider to become even more successful by presenting a balanced foundation from which you can build a confident, trusting, respectful relationship, without sacrificing the spirit of either the horse or the human. This is a place to share natural horsemanship philosophies and how horses change our lives including those little victories/defeats that don’t mean anything to the "normal" crowd, to have a place to celebrate/vent leadership issues, blinding flashes of the obvious, or brainstorm creative ideas! We will be able to organize natural play days, tournaments, and post information and announcements of natural horsemanship happenings.

This group is by invitation only. You are officially invited by receiving this newsletter. If you would like to join Heart in Your Hand Horsemanship's Yahoo group please e-mail Leigh the moderator at freeman@diodecom.net
